educational toolkit to increase identification, prevention, and intervention of human trafficking of youth

Restorations has received funding from WAGE Canada for a project to develop and put in place a Survivor-Led Peer Advocacy approach to increase identification, prevention, and intervention of human trafficking of youth.

We will address the dire need for more survivor-developed supports and services to prevent and address human trafficking among the diverse youth population in Hamilton and Halton, Ontario.

To do so, our project includes developing an educational toolkit to increase identification, prevention, and intervention of human trafficking of youth.

As part of developing this toolkit, 2 Advisory Committees - a Youth Advisory Committee and a Caregivers & Service Providers Advisory Committee - will be created to inform what information and resources will be covered in the toolkit, advise how knowledge is combined and presented, and provide feedback on toolkit development.

We want to gather the collective wisdom and insights of those with experience in providing care and surviving human trafficking! Our goal is to centre the voices of lived experience.

Caregivers & Service Providers Advisory Committee

We are seeking members in the Hamilton/Halton regions who:

  • Are service providers in roles that work with youth who have experienced or at risk of human trafficking/sexual exploitation

  • Are caregivers (e.g. parent, guardian, foster parent) of youth who have experienced human trafficking/sexual exploitation

Participation in this Advisory Committee is entirely voluntary. This is not a paid position.

Youth Advisory Committee

We are seeking youth in the Hamilton/Halton regions who have experienced human trafficking/sexual exploitation and  are in a place of readiness to use their lived experience to inform the development of this toolkit.

Youth members’ time and expertise will be compensated through an honorarium-based Gift Card or e-transfer that is equivalent to $26.00 an hour. Compensations will be provided to members at the end of each meeting.

Meetings for both Advisory Committees will begin in March 2024 and we will meet every three months for 1 year.

We invite interested individuals to complete an application form.

The deadline for applications is Friday, February 2 @ 5:00 PM.

We invite you to share this invitation with your contacts and networks. Any questions about the Committee or the application forms can be sent to youth@restorationscanada.org
